In order to reduce pollution and present a cheaper alternative in place of conventional thermal electricity, the Haryana Government’s Department of New and Renewable Energy has launched an eco-friendly initiative to run government sector offices, schools, and colleges entirely by solar-driven power. Mahinder Pal Singh, the Additional Deputy Commissioner of Rohtak said, “ This initiative to tap and utilize solar power for national use is a part of the initiative where the switch to more renewable natural resources will be made, thus curbing the pollution caused by the conventional natural resources and nuclear power.
This initiative by the Haryana Government is taken positively by the local residents. According to a report from DM’s office, in a scheme to develop and install solar inverters and solar panels, 2568 applications were received from villages in Rohtak alone as compared to an estimation of around 471. Another development of this solar initiative was seen in the agricultural sector when the solar-powered tubewells were to be installed in the farms and a staggering 440 applications were received to bestow upon the historic development. Some of the villages have reported an adequate scarcity of funds and thus, village panchayats came forward for the installation of solar-enabled LED streetlights.
Renewable Energy Service Company of Haryana has taken over the project and solar rooftops are to be installed in 25 government agencies in Rohtak alone. The solar projects will range from 42KWP to 1.5 MWP, depending upon the size of the building and the number of people it actually holds. The survey process is already executed for these buildings and the tendering process is underway, the result of which will be known to the sources by the end of May.
The buildings where the proposed project was to be carried out include
- Institute of Mental Health block
- Mother and Child block,
- Police Training Centre, Sunaria
- Government ITI, Meham
- Vita Milk Plant
- Government College for Women
- Pt Neki Ram Sharma Government College, Rohtak.
The success of these projects will enable solar plantations in more buildings of the state, even furthering to domestic private sectors as well.
