Solar Rooftops Industry On The Rise In Gujarat

When financial pundits and solar specialists had predicted a slow year for solar products, especially rooftops, Gujarat has brought in some good news. Gujarat is one of the states where conditions are considered quite ideal as far as the solar rooftop is concerned. This will be quite beneficial for the solar industry as a whole, which in turn could pose a policy push in the near future. Along with Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan, Gujarat is considered as one of the 3 major states by the Centre and emerging/established solar companies, where the solar industry can get a major boost.

Since the industry for solar rooftops is still at a lower grade, the state government has created an organization called Dakshin Gujarat Vij Company Limited. It is a state-run Discom which is tasked with the solar rooftop implementation in Gujarat. The DISCOM is managed by Mr. Yogesh Chaudhary, a 2017 Gujarat-cadre IAS and comes under the indirect supervision Mr. Vijay Rupani, Chief Minister of Gujarat. The organization has been active since 2019 and has received a very good response as far as the state’s rooftop solar scheme is concerned. The scheme was earlier managed by GEDA (Gujarat Energy Development Agency), also a state-based agency and a brainchild of the former Chief Minister of Gujarat,  Anandiben Patel. This scheme has provided residents and industries a subsidy of 40 percent for rooftop solar ranging from 1KW to 3 KW, while on the other hand, subsidizes 20 percent for sizes between 6 KW 10 KW. When the price is taken into the scheme of things, a subsidized price of INR 28000 will be applicable for the individuals/businesses putting up a solar panel of up to 3kW, while INR 37000 will be applicable for those guys who are putting up a panel of 6kW.

The vendors and installers based in Gujarat are supposed to charge their customers only the cost net of subsidies. The task of collecting the subsidy payments are normally left to the vendors and depends upon the economy of the cash flow coming through. When the amount of the solar rooftop has been claimed directly in lieu of GEDA in the earlier four to nine months with positive consumer reviews, room for improvement will be made as far as the economic strategy is concerned.

This issue has forged solar rooftop in a lot of other states where there seems to be a considerable margin of growth. Here, the rate of corruption is bound to decrease a notch and the subsidies will be taken into account as well. This will, however, sweeten the deal and will increase trust maintenance among the vendors, consumers, and government agencies, especially DGVCL.  Also, DGVCL will add to some other value-added services like the extended maintenance support unlike GEDA, where maintenance support was not mandatory to put up. the other value-added services like extended maintenance support.
